Scholarships
Helping those in Financial Need
Every child deserves a theatrical education. Yet participation in youth musical theatre usually comes with a price tag. SYS offers scholarships to ensure that young people, with an interest in musical theatre, have an opportunity to participate.
Applicants submit an essay on the importance of the performing arts, a financial profile and participate in an interview with several board members. Our primary interest is to help youth, who might otherwise be unable to benefit from the performing arts, with an experience they’ll never forget.
In addition to local youth scholarships, Sing Your Song has partnered with several educational programs to offer financial scholarships to deserving students. Some of these educational programs include the following:
★ Sing Your Song is proud to partner with the Old Globe in San Diego and to award financial scholarships to deserving recipients to attend the Old Globe’s Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio intensive program.
★ Sing Your Song sponsored opportunities for local students to participate in Cygnet Theatre’s youth arts engagement program through a financial contribution to the theatre.
★ Baldwin Wallace University – SYS awarded financial scholarships to college students who were pursuing acting and musical theatre careers.
★ Fiasco Theater – SYS awarded financial scholarships to students attending the Fiasco Intensive Conservatory Program, which gave 16 students the opportunity to be immersed in the textual, vocal, physical, and aesthetic techniques that are at the core of Fiasco’s ensemble-based, text-driven approach to making theater.
Here’s what some of the recipients and their parents had to say about their experience:
“This program is the best actor and artist training I have encountered.
